How To Persuade Someone To Do SomethingNo matter what it is you do in life, you need to learn how to persuade someone to do something. Whether it be your boss, your customer, or even your spouse, getting the things that you want is extremely important. I could write an article 100 times longer than this about persuasion. Giving you specific examples and techniques on what you can do. But I decided to keep this brief and here’s why… When you are persuading someone to your way of thinking, it has to be coming from you. Your presentation needs to look real, smell real, and actually be real in order to get someone to do what you want. You have to use all of the suggestions below. But you need to use your own brain to really make your persuasive presentation stand out. Nobody can do this for you. You have to do it yourself. You’re much smarter than you give yourself credit for. So keep these basic principles of persuasion in mind. Use them to the best of your ability. And before you know it, the person will be dying to do whatever it is you want… 1. Be SincereIf there’s one step that you simply cannot skip, it would have to be this one. Using force or other means simply does not work when it comes to persuasion. If you want to get someone to do what you want, you have to make them believe that what you are suggesting is beneficial to them. And the only way you can do that is if you are kind and sincere in your presentation. 2. Know Exactly What You Want Them To DoIn business, this is called the Most Wanted Response. You absolutely have to know in advance what you want the other person to do. Every part of your persuasion pitch has to lead to getting your Most Wanted Response (or MWR). It has to be in the back of your head at all times. 3. Ask Yourself What It Is The Other Person WantsThink about how your request is going to benefit them. If they are really going to do what you want, it has to be something that they want to do. In order to do this, you need to give them some sort of benefit that they can’t refuse. An example would be something like, “If you do this for me, I’ll do [insert favor here] for you next week.” The better your return favor is, the more persuasive you are going to be. 4. Match Benefits To The Other Person’s WantsYou’ve already figured out what the other person wants. Now tie in what they want with what you want. For example… They want ABC and you want XYZ. The best case scenario is to find a way that you can do both. If that’s not possible, you need to find a DEF, a GHI, and a JKL that far exceeds the ABC that they wanted originally. Make sure that you consider what they get in return and make it worth far more than whatever it is that you are asking for. 5. When You Do The Request, Make Sure They Know How They Will BenefitThis is the absolute most important thing you need to do when you are trying to persuade someone. Give them benefit after benefit that they will receive if they do what you want. The more benefits you have, the better. Because you can never have too many benefits! In order to do this, you have to get into their mindset. What is it they want? What is it, that if you offered to give them, they simply couldn’t refuse? Think about how they will react when you give them your sales pitch. The more you can get inside their head and think about what they want (not what you want), the more you are going to be able to persuade them. Hammer them with an unlimited supply of benefits. Get to their emotions. And before you know it, they’ll be begging to do whatever it is you want.
