If I Can Teach You Just One Thing, It Would Be ThisI make tons of suggestions throughout this site. But if I could get you to learn one thing from me, and one thing alone, it would be this… “Success is simply good habits, performed every day.” You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to achieve great things in life. You do, however, need to have a little patience and a little discipline. Patience and discipline. If everybody had those two qualities, everyone would be a huge success throughout the course of their lifetime. Everyone would be millionaires if they had the discipline to save money, and the patience to have their money grow over time. Everyone would also be incredibly smart. If, of course, they had the discipline to read one hour a day, and the patience to realize that one hour a day of reading leads to hundreds and thousands of books over a lifetime! The problem is, most people get into habits that they don’t even realize are bad for them. They don’t realize that saving a few dollars a day can make them a millionaire. And they don’t realize an hour, even a half hour, will add up to many, many great books they can read to help change their life. People fail to realize that it’s the little things that add up to do amazing things for them over time. They fall into the habit of thinking, “Oh, what I do today isn’t that big of a deal.” But this is where most people get into trouble. It is important what you do today. No matter how small it is. It will add up! You see, it’s easy to do the things necessary in order to be successful. But, it’s also easy not to do these things. It requires two important qualities to be able to stick with these good habits… Patience and discipline! Good Habits Compound Over TimeAmazing things happen through your daily habits. It’s very similar to how compound interest works in investing. Each day, your good habits may not seem like a big deal. But, compounded over time, these habits can lead to extraordinary results. I’ll give you an example from my own account. Over the last few years, I have probably only averaged about thirty minutes of time per day writing. This time is spread out over several websites that I have done. Now, thirty minutes doesn’t seem like much of anything. But, if you put together everything I have wrote in the last five years, it would fill several books! For me, it doesn’t really feel possible that I could have spent enough time to write a few books. But in a way, I have. And this was all from just writing thirty minutes here or thirty minutes there, everyday over the course of a few years. Now, let me ask you this… What have you said that you have always wanted to do in your lifetime, but never had the time to do it? Is it a vacation? Or, perhaps you wanted to publish your own book. Well, I’m here to tell you right now that you do have the time. You do have enough money if you will just save a few dollars a day over the course of one or two years. If you will just work on whatever your dream is a little bit everyday, it will come to you eventually. Once again, it just takes patience and discipline. What To Do NowYou need to have good habits, money, and everything else you can think of compounding for you in your daily life. First, save a couple dollars a day for something that is special in your life. Have a basket where you save a couple dollars for your retirement. Have a basket where you save a couple dollars for your next vacation. And have a basket where you save in case of an emergency. Live a little below your means until you can go on that trip that you have always wanted to go on. Next, ingrain good habits in yourself and perform them on a daily basis. Start the morning with a jog around the block. You can’t start the day any better! Start reaching for an apple instead of a candy bar. Today, the difference between the two may be very little. But if you did this daily over the course of three years, 1000+ candy bars is a big difference between 1000+ apples. It’s the difference between being healthy and having 50+ pounds of weight to deal with. Start the process today to find good habits that you can get into the habit of doing consistently. It’s not going to have hardly an effect on you in the short term. But… Success isn’t about the short term. It’s the accumulation of many good years. Which is the accumulation of many great months. Which is the accumulation of many great weeks. Which is the accumulation of many great days. Make today be a perfect day. The rest will take care of itself, over time. Like what you read?
