Whose Plan Are You On?If you don’t know who Jim Rohn is, or have never heard him speak, you are in for a real treat with this article… Jim has written several books and made countless audio
programs. One of which completely changed my life, it’s called The Art Of Exceptional Living. Anyways, in that audio program, Jim talks about where he was at at age 25. He was poor. Struggling to pay his bills. In debt. Creditors calling. Etc. His life was completely upside-down and he was telling this to his mentor by the name of Earl Shoaff. Jim told Earl his story and then Earl asked Jim a couple of questions… How much money have you saved in the last five years? Jim, of course, replied none. Then Earl said, “Who sold you on that plan?” These words hit me, personally, like a ton of bricks! Think about this for a second. How have you been spending your time in the last five years? Are you in a similar situation as Jim was? Are you not doing as well financially as you would like? Well, think back to what you have done in the last five years. Have you saved any money? Have you read any books that will help you become wealthier? If you haven’t then why not? Who convinced you that this was the best way to live your life? Where did you get this plan that you are on right now? Chances are that nobody specifically told you to live your life this way. It just sort of came to you because you hadn’t given it any real thought. I hope that you realize that if you don’t start giving some real thought to the way you live your life you are headed for disaster! If you aren’t where you want to be in life right now, it’s quite simple… Start doing something differently! Your life doesn’t have to be like this forever. You don’t have to keep on making the same mistakes. You can start making changes that will get you back on the right path. The path towards incredible wealth and happiness! Think about the changes that you can make in your daily life that will lead to big changes down the road. These don’t have to be major changes. Start with some simple stuff… Start by saving a small percentage of everything that you earn and keep it in a savings account. If you’re in really bad financial shape, you can start with saving one or two percent of whatever you are earning. As time goes on, get it to where you are saving ten or even fifteen percent of your paycheck. Imagine what will happen down the road if you do this! Five years from now, if someone asks you how you are doing financially you can say, “Pretty good.” Twenty of thirty years down the road they will ask again and you will, “Absolutely incredible. I’m extremely wealthy!” That’s because if you have been saving ten percent, you no doubt will have thousands and thousands of dollars stuffed away into that savings account. Even if you are only making minimum wage! What a difference that makes compared to not saving anything and having nothing in your savings account. Here’s the great thing about saving. If you don’t get in the habit of putting money in your savings account, it will probably end up going to various things that you didn’t need. A little bit here. A little bit there. Before you know it, it’s all gone! But if instead you start putting that money away for retirement, your life won’t seem that much different. It will feel completely normal because you will get in the habit of living off of 90% or 85% of your income. It’s simple stuff. Start saving. Start reading. Look At What You’re DoingWhat Jim Rohn preaches, and what I’m asking you to do right now, is look hard at what you are doing on a daily basis. The decisions you are making today may not seem like a big deal. But over the course of time they will make a huge difference. What are you doing now to help your future? What are you not doing? Start today and make the little changes in your life that will set you up for happiness down the road. Don’t follow a plan that is setting you up for failure. So many people are destined for failure and they may not even realize it! If you will start becoming more aware of what you are doing today, the decisions you make will greatly impact what your life will be like further down the road. If you haven’t yet, I strongly suggest you pick up a copy of the audiobook The Art Of Exceptional Living. I’ve listened to it several times during car rides and it continues to inspire me in my day-to-day decision making. Like what you read?
