Online Writing Experiment Week Two Update

February 03, 2009

It's been another week and I'm happy to say that I've continued the online writing experiment.

After getting off to a good start, two pages in three days, I've recently been slacking in writing productivity. On both Saturday and Monday, I was only able to write the bare minimum of ten minutes. Both days I was thoroughly convinced that I was going to have to miss a day. But each time I somehow mustered up the will power to quickly get my ten minutes of writing in so I could clear my conscious.

Still, on those two days I was unable to do my writing at the trigger time that I set, which is right after breakfast. Both of these days involved problems in my schedule which made me unable to write, even for just ten minutes.

Here are the articles that were completed...

Why Reading Fiction Is A Good Thing

The customized pictures page has very little content on it. But I considered the gathering of pictures and placing them in my HTML editor to be a form of "writing".

Writing Analysis

Developing a writing habit is hard! I have the greatest respect for bloggers out there that continue to churn out page after page on a daily basis.

I know I can get to the point where writing consistently is second nature, but for now it's very much a struggle.

I still have the voice inside me telling me to watch television instead of write. And as much as I would like to say I am getting better at getting started, it's certainly not the case. I'm still getting my ten minutes a day of writing in, but days like Saturday and Monday I barely made it.

One area that I do believe I've seen improvement from day one is that when I finally do start writing, I have much less distracting thoughts as I'm actually writing. I'm much better at focusing in on the writing itself and getting as much of the article done as possible.

That area I do see an improvement. Which is comforting to know.

I realize that the more days I consistently write, the better I am going to get. That's just the way it is, with anything that you do in life. I'm hoping that within a couple of months of consistent writing that I can crank out a full page without any conscious thought of anything else but the article itself.

For My Final Week

I'd like to finish the final week by making sure that I continue writing right after my trigger of eating breakfast. This is something that will possibly change after the 21 day experiment is up, but for now, the routine is to write after breakfast, and I hope that I can continue that.

I am considering for my next experiment to do a complete morning routine. To incorporate jogging, a shower, breakfast, and some writing.

I'm hoping to build a routine that is consistent and easily repeatable for a very long time.

I know that if I can have a perfect morning routine every day, the little action steps I take will add up to a lot over the next year alone.

I'm excited by the possibilities that this writing experiment and my upcoming morning routine experiment are going to have. I encourage you to consider developing a really good morning routine which has some form of exercise and something that involves working toward a major goal that you have.

I'll get into the details of that later, once I've actually done it!
